The 2013 Padrone Proprietary Red Wine is a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc. This is aged in 100% new French oak. Ray Signorello first made this wine in 1997, although the first vintage for Signorello was way back in 1985. (Most of the vineyard is between 26 and 36 years of age.) The 2013 Padrone is a stunner that showed fabulously well, despite the fact of having been bottled not that long ago. Plenty of crme de cassis, new saddle leather, graphite and forest floor are present in this full-bodied wine, which has several extra gears and dimensions. This wine is always a selection of their best lots, and they had plenty to choose from in 2013. The wine is sensationally long, rich, complex and should age brilliantly for 30 or more years.

A wine of real density and power, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Padrone hits the palate with a rush of blackcurrant, lavender, mint, licorice, blood orange and scorched earth. Deep, virile and broad on the palate, the 2013 captures the natural structure of the vintage. Best of all, it should drink well with just a few more years in bottle.
